Derek works in collaboration with a couple of key companies in the fly fishing industry (and snowboard industry) like Buff Headwear, Abel Reels, Simms and Burton Snowboards who work with him in a shared vision to bring his artwork from the canvas to the specialty product.
These eight stunning, DeYoung Series Abel Reels are a perfect blend of Abels precision engineering, and DeYoung’s vividly colored and imaginative trout paintings. Taking up to two days to complete, each reel is hand anodized to match the look of Derek’s artwork.
Seven DeYoung depictions of fish from Montana, Alaska and the Florida Keys combine touches of realism and hints of impressionism into unique, vivid, depictions of the fish we all love to chase!
The Simms-DeYoung Artist Series line includes everything from T shirts and other apparel items to flyboxes, waterbottles and cigar humidors. Derek’s unique and colorful style makes his art a natural fit for Simms apparel and accessories.
When the guys at Burton Snowboards asked me to submit some fish art for their 2014 “Fish Board”, I felt the “Trout Confetti” series would be the perfect fit. This series of paintings related to fly fishing only in a sense of celebrating trout.. which fly anglers covet so dearly. But non fishers tend to like this series, appreciating them for their color, pattern and form.

My New Joint (upstairs from the Square Grouper in Cudjoe Key, Florida) is the best new restaurant in the Florida Keys! It has an outstanding menu and a high end, creative look. Owner Lynn Bell, who also owns the Square Grouper worked with Derek to deck out the new restaurant in all of his latest Saltwater Work. The result is an amazing collaboration of food and art that gives you a true Keys experience. Check it out the next time you are on a fishing trip in the Keys.
