In 2004, DeYoung began his Abstract Flank Series. Everyone can agree that trout have beautiful colors and patterns down the length of their sides. Derek figured out that when they are painted on large canvases, these patterns and colors created very contemporary pieces of fly fishing themed art. These paintings look unbelievable in log cabins as well as open floor plan style homes.
